Flooding

After several days of heavy rain, our back paddock is now effectively an inland sea. It's pretty spectacular to see. The houses are raised from these water levels by about 10 meters and the big house is on stilts, so flooding is unlikely to ever be a problem in the houses, unless we see something of biblical proportions. In fact, the fact that our property diverts all the water down into the creek has kept the house block relatively dry. I hope everyone reading is faring well too. Between floods and tornados an gale force winds it's pretty wild out there. Queensland - never a dull moment.

  1. We have been watching the news unfold, it's quite devastating for those who are in areas needing evacuation.
My mother in law is in Grantham so as you can imagine we are on tenterhooks at the moment.
    Stay safe.

  2. Hoping you guys are safe and dry tonight. Bet you are glad you had that huge old pine tree removed! We have just stocked up on batteries, even before the announcement of flooding we just had a feeling and a drive around the suburb confirmed our suspcions. Our suburb flooded two years ago and we had no power for a week, Betsy was safe and dry on the top of a hill though. Fingers crossed for us all. mel x

  4. I was wondering how you guys were going.... Check out how much water we had in our little suburban backyard today and this is just the rainfall and that's all. Glad you are all safe and I agree with the previous comments about removing your big tree . Regards Kathy A, Brisbane

  6. You've certainly been tossed some trials and tribulations in your early weeks there, and weather going from one extreme to another just to spice things up a bit. I hope you remain high and dry and that the snakes don't come knocking at the door to escape the deluge.

  8. So glad to hear you are ok. We have not had the internet for a couple of days so have been a bit concerned for you out there after seeing the news about Laidley. The water has receded here too and now we are left with the lovely swampy smell that always follows.
