Exterior Inspirations

This is what our big old Queenslander looks like at the moment. If you can ignore the overgrown tree, you can get a fair idea of what we have to work with.

Here's an example of what we'd LIKE it to look like. This particular example has the added example of not being wrapped in an aluminium verandah.

On the topic of verandahs, this is what we'd like ours to look like when done... the colour scheme, particularly. And the fairy lights, of course.

(While we're on the topic of exterior lighting, this is Lu standing under the lights of her playhouse, clearly on an important call - too cute not to share!)

Our verandah ceiling isn't framed, so it will end up looking more like this one from Walk Among The Homes blog.

And another colour scheme example. Grey is very in, clearly.

The gate and front steps of this example are wonderful, although it's a different style and generation of home than ours.

And that's that! Now, if anyone has a magic wand I can wave in the direction of Big House to expedite the process a little, please let me know!

  1. You will do it one day! Think how much you have achieved so far. I bet those people who owned those other beautiful places didn't do it themselves ... you have gained so much in knowledge, skills, and the confidence to know how much you can achieve yourself through your own hard work. You should be so proud of yourselves. Melindi

  2. All great images Edwina. I'm loving the East Ipswich one particularly. My late Dad was born in Ipswich, and I was thinking for a minute that it might have been this old home, but after closer inspection, no. Loving home isn't it? You are on track which is the main thing. It might be a long and winding track but you'll get there! Easy for me to say isn''t it?! cheers Wendy

  3. The house will look grand when you finish it Edwina, its great to have the vision of what could be and will be, as many people can't see past the initial start point, or just consider it to be too much work or put it in the too hard basket. Keep up the good work.

    Cheers, Col

  4. Good grief, that place is stunning! I wish I had been able to get to Seattle early enough to see that place. I just love that style of house and garden.

  5. You have a lovely inspiration, Edwina. A veranda is really a great addition to your house. It will not only add beauty to your house, but it will also serve as a great place for you to unwind, or have a cup of coffee while enjoying the view of your yard. Have you started doing it yet?
