Before and After - The New Roof

When doing a project like this, it's amazing how much you come to celebrate the milestones. Like, a new watertight (we hope) roof going on the top of your Ugly Duckling.

The roofers still have a bit of the back verandah to do but they're NEARLY there. And I'm so happy with the finished product.

Before:

After:

It still looks mighty shabby, I know. The cladding is still hideous and what's with those concrete stumps and there's crap all over everywhere and the lawn is dead (RAIN, goddammit - after the roofers are done, of course) but honestly, this sight is better than any design magazine to me.

A nice, watertight roof with two new whirlybirds sending hot air out from under the rafters up to the sky. There is currently one layer of insulation under there, with another to go in soon.

May we never again be as hot as we were here last Summer, or as rained upon in our own living room.

  1. Here's Cheers to your new roof and no more requirement for buckets! Our original green tin roof is due to be replaced this week by a new zincalume roof too. I hear you about the lack of rain, but can it just hold off for a few more days? xx

  2. Woo Hoo!!! I bet you are so pleased. Now you have lots of roofing iron to use in other projects. We used a whole lot to make raised garden beds. We used old irrigation pipe along the top to cover the edge.

    1. Garden beds are a great idea. We've put aside a big pile to build an animal shelter in our paddock too. It's also partly going to act as a screen from the neighbours on one side. Win win!

  8. A fine and splendid job you did right there! White is really glorious in its formality. Variation allows this. And it saves you cost on your monthly utility bill because light colored roofs reflects heat from the sun, unlike dark toned roofs that absorbs heat.

  10. Looking good! Your new all-white roof definitely fits your house so much better. I know you don't like how it looks right now, but it's not so bad. Trust me. It just needs a little touch-up. And at the end of the day, it is as you've said; having a water-tight and well-ventilated roof is important.

  11. The improvement on the appearance alone is enough to tell that you made the right decision to have a new roof, Edwina! Though there are still remaining projects to attend to, at least you've already crossed out the leaking roof from the list. Congratulations!

  12. It’s always good to see the new roof on the house, the durability, the color and the exterior work but on the other side it cost higher and not each of the home owners can bear the cost of new roof. They have to find the solution of leaks and damages with remaining in the budget. RV Roof leaks Repair
